1976 Holden Torana L31 SL/R 5000.
The mildly facelifted LX series arrived in February 1976. Cosmetically, the most obvious changes were to replace the LH’s rectangular headlights with round headlights, side window surrounds were changed from body colour to black, and the front Holden badge was enlarged. A two-door hatchback body was introduced as an alternative to the four-door sedan, although the 1,897-cc Opel unit was not offered in the new body style. Soon after its introduction, in July 1976 the LX was subjected to performance-reducing engine modifications to comply with new ADR27A emission regulations. Less than two years into the SLR’s lifespan came the LX update. Visual changes were minimal, and power declined from 186kW to somewhere below 170kW (the A9X was rated at only 161kW) due to new emission measures. Prices increased dramatically, sending a 5.0-litre LX SLR soaring in value by more than 50 per cent against the original LH.
Muscle Car Warehouse are proud to offer for sale a true Australian motoring icon, This unrestored Holden Torana SL/R 5000 was originally delivered through Ross Campbell Holden in Barraba New South Wales. Adding to the already striking presence of an SL/R5000 is the glowing original Mandarin Red paint work shown on this example. Cosmetically the only addition to the exterior is the side flares, front spoiler, and period style Hot Wire wheels. The Torana even still wears the original dealership sticker on the rear windscreen. Paintwork is mostly original. Inside the Torana is the Slate Black interior which again is mostly original apart from the front seats which have recently been re trimmed. The rear seat, headlining, steering wheel etc are all original. This SL/R 5000 is also still running its genuine matching number 308 Holden V8 engine together with the M21 four speed manual transmission. The engine runs beautifully and is ready to be enjoyed. Another bonus is the car still retains its original logbook, owner’s manual, and a very extensive amount of paperwork. Rarely do such cars become available so do not hesitate to make an appointment to inspect this Aussie icon at our Kogarah facility.
